Amanda graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biosciences in 2000 and a Masters Degree in Osteopathy in 2002. She has been in private practice in the Lane Cove and St Leonards areas for almost 20 years. She was a university lecturer for senior students in the Osteopathy program for 4 years, as well as a Registration Board Examiner.
Although Amanda has build a reputation for caring for patients with all manner of tissue restriction and pain, she began to develop her skills in assisting breast cancer patients in the management of her sisters side effects during her treatment in 2001. In 2019, following her own breast cancer journey, she became aware that there was a widespread demand for experience in managing tissue changes, scars and adhesions in the care of these patients.
In March 2021 she joined the allied health team at Northern Beaches Breast Clinic in Frenchs Forest to practice alongside the Breast Surgeons and the allied health team in caring for their patients. In February 2022 Amanda joined the Kay Van Norton Centre for Wellbeing at the Mater Hospital. She currently divides her professional time between these two practices as well as teaching and research.
Amanda has a particular interest in caring for:
Scars, fibrous tissue, adhesions (acute or chronic)
Cording and axilla (armpit) stiffness
Capsular contraction
Shoulder pain and movement restriction
Chemotherapy gut side effects (nausea)
Post DIEP or TRAM abdominal recovery
Amanda’s patients are referred by Oncology Breast Surgeons, Radiation Oncologists, Medical Oncologists and McGrath Breast Care Nurses. She is enthusiastic about the future of osteopathy in this field and has developed her After Breast Cancer CPD course to encourage other osteopaths to feel comfortable to care for these women in their own practices.
